Spring landed three days ago. Pop. Wow, as there was still a foot of snow the week before. Galanthus, hamamelis, and Crocus ‘Tommasinianus’ came out within days of one another. Yesterday I switched to my Fall/ Spring coat when I walk the pups. And today, I did not need cleats to walk the trails.
When I surveyed the garden, where most of the damage was due to wind, Daphne caucasica burned as did one of the D. x hendersonii. Epimedium ‘Spine Tingler’ is all papery yellow one inch above the ground. Also many of the mounding dianthus now have large dead patches as well some of the mounding arenarias. Sure, that’s why we have room for new plants each year. But I’m sure these will all come back in short order. It won’t be long before everything will get a shot of warm weather rejuvenation.
And it won’t be long until our first meeting of the year. This will be a great kickoff meeting with our speaker from North Carolina: Tony Avent. Have you marked your calendar for April 5th? We have gathered quite a few rare and special plants for our afternoon BNARGS auction. But do bring anything you might be willing to share also.
