Lori Chips is among the heroes of the Berkshire Chapter, NARGS. A top propagator for Oliver Nurseries, in Fairfield CT, she has generously donated plants to our sales for over 20 years. What treasures she has put on our sale tables. For one, she has kept alive the legacy of Phlox ‘Ellie B.’ (named after another great plantswoman and mentor Ellie (Brinkerhoff) Spingarn). It’s a really good doer. We are so thankful she choses to propagate it. Spring would not be the same without that plant’s bright face. Do you grow it?
BNARGS is fortunate indeed to have Lori give us a talk on her journey as a propagator at our August 2nd ’25 meeting. For those of you who might not know- Lori is an artist, hypertufa trough maker, alpine propagator, and author of Hypertufa Containers: Creating and Planting an Alpine Trough Garden. Check out some of her work here.
As an added bonus we will have a brief follow up of a hands-on workshop for daphne cuttings. Cuttings, pots, perlite and rooting hormone will be supplied. Cuttings supplied by me will include Daphne x schlyteri, and a red leaved (in spring) form of Daphne cneorum. They are both good doers. Maybe you too will share the joy.

Another added bonus: Lori will be vending her own plants. She will have three tables full from which to choose. And yes, even some of her famous unique troughs. Save your pennies to spend here. And yes, BNARGS will also have a small seedling sale where members who donate get first choice. Remember – no annuals please.
One of the fun events of our year is our Member’s Potpourri that will come after the plant sale. We will see what some of our newer members are constructing. And as well, a couple of old timers including me. I promise to show you some very different crevice gardens!
