There is always a whiff of excitement this time of the year. Just listen to the enthusiastic trills of the spring birds. There are many days above freezing now. The snow is fading from the landscape. It’s the start of mud season here!

Too, it’s time to make final plans for gardening this coming spring. And mark those special meetings on your calendar. We begin our meeting year on April 4th with that consummate plantswoman, Esther Benedict. Yes, she will be selling treasures again at the Stonecrop Plant Sale later in April. But come hear her at the BNARGS meeting first, and learn how she grows them. From Androsace to Saxifraga with many rare treasures in between, Esther has excelled in germinating and propagating these rare and fabulous treasures. And among other things, how she built her own rock garden. Plus you get to ask questions without interfering with her sales. Don’t miss this!
Next on May 2nd we have our joint meeting with the New England Chapter of the American Primrose Society. It’s a Study Weekend packed into one day or two, depending on if you want to enter the show. Yes, BNARGS members are invited to enter the judged Primula Show. In any case there will be a great judged show, vendors, and lectures. Jodie Mitchell from Barnhaven will be giving two talks! Mark your calendars. Here is the schedule:

Check your email for how to volunteer or enter the show. And this is just the start of the year! Check out the whole schedule here.
