Ace-crete Sand #2

Sandra Schaller’s talk at our June meeting on the Hypertufa Trough inspired quite a bit of story and recipe sharing. It has been some time since many of us made this kind of trough, the hypertufa one, though some of us made hundreds every year. (And some still do.) She has kindly shared not only her recipe, but also her soil mix. The sand pictured above, Ace-crete #2 is part of her recipe. It seems to be the NYC’s local answer to the grit part of the recipe.

Let me mention that here in Connecticut we can go to New England Silica on Rt 5 in South Windsor for their Sand #1 and #2 and #3, depending on your inclination. Note they don’t come up in most internet searches for sand. If you have a good source, please email us and let the list grow. I particularly favor their #3 for top dressing. And I have been known to add some #1 into my cactus soil mix.

Let us know if you try any of the following recipes please.

And please remember there is no July meeting. See you in August!
